REP. JERRY NOLTE FAILS TO DELIVER LEGISLATION SUPPORTING LOCAL FORD PLANT

Jim Stoufer, Democratic Candidate and Ford Worker, vows to make jobs his top priority

Claycomo, MO—Despite having a Republican majority, Republican Rep. Jerry Nolte did not deliver on a promise to pass the Manufacturing Jobs Act, which keeps thousands of jobs at the Ford plant in the heart of his district.

The Act would have provided tax incentives for keeping the Ford plant at full production. As a result, the 3,700 jobs the bill would have saved are now at risk as well as the thousands of jobs outside the plant that depends on Ford’s production.

Jim Stoufer, Nolte’s Democratic challenger in November, is disheartened by Nolte’s lack of leadership. “Despite serving in the legislature for three terms and being in the majority, Nolte could not get the job done,” Stoufer said, “We need new leadership in Jefferson City who will make fighting for jobs in the Northland his number one priority.”

“As a Ford worker myself and former President of UAW Local 249, I daily see so many Northland residents who fear losing their jobs because politics was placed ahead of people. For me, keeping and bringing jobs back home is not about politics; it’s a personal issue,” Stoufer stated.

In addition to Stoufer’s disappointment with Nolte’s lack of leadership, Democratic Gov Jay Nixon emphasized the need to pass pro-jobs legislation in a recent trip to the Claycomo Ford plant. “The Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act will help protect Missouri’s automotive industry,” Gov. Nixon stated, “It will give us the tools we need to grow that industry.”

Due to Nolte’s failure to convince his own party’s majority to pass the bill, the only chance for passage is if Gov. Nixon agrees to a special session.

Aside from his work at the Ford Plant, Stoufer is an elected member to the Claycomo Board of Trustees.  Stoufer is also a veteran of the United States Army and is a father of eight children.

The November general election is November 2nd. The 33rd District represents part of Clay County including the Gladstone, Kansas City, and the Village of Claycomo.
